About BMR & TDEE Calculator
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns to perform basic life-sustaining functions. Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is an estimate of how many calories you burn per day, including physical activity. This tool helps you calculate both using industry-standard formulas.
Understanding the Formulas:
-
Mifflin-St Jeor Equation: Often considered more accurate than Harris-Benedict, especially for modern lifestyles.
- Men: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) + 5
- Women: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) - 161
-
Revised Harris-Benedict Equation: A classic formula, widely used for many years.
- Men: BMR = (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years) + 88.362
- Women: BMR = (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years) + 447.593
-
TDEE Calculation: Your BMR multiplied by an activity factor:
- Sedentary: BMR × 1.2
- Lightly Active: BMR × 1.375
- Moderately Active: BMR × 1.55
- Very Active: BMR × 1.725
- Extremely Active: BMR × 1.9
