About BMR & TDEE Calculator

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns to perform basic life-sustaining functions. Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is an estimate of how many calories you burn per day, including physical activity. This tool helps you calculate both using industry-standard formulas.

Understanding the Formulas:

  • Mifflin-St Jeor Equation: Often considered more accurate than Harris-Benedict, especially for modern lifestyles.
    • Men: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) + 5
    • Women: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) - 161
  • Revised Harris-Benedict Equation: A classic formula, widely used for many years.
    • Men: BMR = (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years) + 88.362
    • Women: BMR = (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years) + 447.593
  • TDEE Calculation: Your BMR multiplied by an activity factor:
    • Sedentary: BMR × 1.2
    • Lightly Active: BMR × 1.375
    • Moderately Active: BMR × 1.55
    • Very Active: BMR × 1.725
    • Extremely Active: BMR × 1.9
